Searchin for a state of mind
I'v been living in my past and wonderin
If someday I'll find, a love I know will last 
in & among this crazy world

I've been told of so many God's and Godess's
that I don't know where to put my faith
I need some spiritual rest on a search to find my soul
on the streets of life and don't you know, Yeah don't you know

All I see is cardboard signs
Once I read them, they leave me blind
I search for truth, well you know I'm searchin for the light
but if I had the answers I'd be,
Walkin on water and turning it into wine.

I took a cross town bus to see my shamen
He told me he saw a Snake, a Rat and a Lion's Den, yeah
He said "you've got the choice, listen to your inner voice"
So I turned it up to ten, all I got was static
Then a little whisper turned into a loud yell
Things I haven't heard in years like...
"Pick up this damn mess!", "This is our little seceret" and 
"Only you can prevent forest fires". 
What did all that crap mean anyway...When,

All I see is cardboard signs

Can't stop the cat from learning
Can't take the fire out of the dreams 
Of those who suffered burning

Wind  up in a mess.
